Well that's the thing though... it's not a level playing field. Solar may never be the cheaper economic choice as long as it's competitors are heavily subsidized What are you talking about - home solar or big public array? Oil implies oil companies the rest are called electrical generation and they receive far fewer subsidies than oil - not even the same business or "playing field". You do know many electric utilities are government owned - so subsidies are redundant in those cases.
