We aren't paying for pumping a barrel of oil from the ground. We are paying for oil. A commodity currently worth about $100/barrel.

You don't have to trust me you can trust virtually every economist in the world.

They would back me up on this. A trade deficit isn't a transfer or wealth.

Whether its very bad, slightly bad, or relatively indifferent, they would disagree among themselves. But they wouldn't call it a wealth transfer.
