Yes, I remember when the transition to digital was first broached by the government, and the reasons why for (principally: the ability to pack more channels into a given amount of frequency, and the preferability of those VHF channels for mobile communications use - they penetrate walls and buildings better then the frequencies the cell phone guys have had available to them up to now).
