Obama: Clinton trying to 'hoodwink' voters with VP talk

Barack Obama is having none of the recent talk from Hillary Clinton's camp that he would make a great vice president.

Talking to supporters in Columbus, Miss. this afternoon, Obama said it makes no sense for Clinton to say on one hand that he is not prepared to be president, but say on the other that he is ready to be one heartbeat away from the presidency.

"If I'm not ready, how is it that you think I should be such a great vice president?" Obama asked. ""Do you understand that?"

Both Hillary Clinton and former president Bill Clinton have suggested in recent days that they would be open to a "dream ticket" of Clinton and Obama, suggesting to Obama supporters that they could vote for Clinton as the Democratic nominee, and still get Obama in the White House.

But he told the audience in Mississippi, where voters go to the polls Tuesday, "They are trying to hoodwink you."

And if there was any doubt about his lack of interest in the No. 2 slot, he declared: "I'm not running for vice president. I'm running for president of the United states of America.... I'm running to be commander-in-chief."
