Hi Jim,

Interesting stuff. I have been trying to work the LSI angle Muse mentioned but have been unable to get them to comment. IMO, an LSI/AMTX alliance would make a lot of sense for a lot of reasons, not the least of which was the 4 Bells RFP requesting 2 component suppliers.

LSI's system on a chip/process technology is the best in the industry IMO. They have a well deserved reputation of being able to quickly come to market with excellent silicon. Most people do not know that they implemented a MIP's RISC core into the Sony Playstation in 6 months. They also have leading edge ASIC & ATM silicon solutions.

I wonder if the 1 chip solution you reference has actually turned into a two chip solution which Muse alluded too?

I spoke at length today with someone from BBTK. Much of the conversation dealt with the costs associated with fiber deployment. It is apparently cheaper than I thought but I am not convinced that Telcos can justify the costs, especially in communities where the deployed copper is decent quality. Amati ADSL of 6-8Mbps is plenty
fast for VOD, I-net etc.

As to the 3 Bill CAP, the Yankee Group will be releasing a report soon predicting 2 or 3 million (cannot remember exact figures) ADSL units shipped by 2000. Here's the URL:
