The Soviets were not so much about phony patriotism, war-mongering, industry and nationalism as about control of the masses. Just so happens they were worse. The Nazi's would not send you to concentration camp for failing to hail the Fuhrer, but the Soviets would take you to jail, or possibly the gulag.
