speaking of hauling............ FWIW Went out to eat tonight off I-10 (outside Houston) at a Bennigan's. Next door was a Home Depot with four 18 wheelers offloading building mat'ls. Stopped to talk to one trucker and got an earful of their (husband/wife team) current prospective of the economy from the road. They parked their private-owned rig 18 months ago due to high operating costs. Unable to sell it as resale mkt down 40% since December. Figure they have ~ 1 month to go driving a company rig before they quit - due to low pay and high costs - sleeping in the cabover and eating at salad bars. Repo their private rig. Diesel fuel runs ~$4/gal. - or ~$1.50/mile for fuel only. They figure from what they are hearing on the radio and cells from others on the road, most longhaul independent truckers will be shut down by June - if fuel doesn't go up. Told my wife and me that we were the the first folks this year that took the time to stop and ask how they were doing. good times comin'...............
