"Sometimes. Identifying the shell casing would be found impossible some times also."

Sometimes, but even you can't deny that it would make criminal investigations a lot easier...

Sure I can. They can already tie bullets used in crimes to a particular gun (most of the time) so where's the benefit? A shell casing tied to a particular gun would be more problematic - it would need to be left at the scene for one thing - if it were discarded elsewhere, there'd be a problem tying it to the crime.

" One could argue that shell casing was fired from the gun at a range or out on a farm or something. "

Sure, and brought from the range and dropped at the scene of a crime...... And you're allowed to own a gun?

Yes, it would have to be dropped at the scene of the crime to be of value. But there's already a bullet left at the scene which is even better evidence.

"Even if a semi-automatic is used in a crime, the shell casings can be picked up."

Isn't it a fact that in the vast majority of cases, a shell casing is found at the site of the shooting?

I don't know the percentage of revolvers vs semi-automatics used in crimes.

"The higher the crime rate, the more law abiding citizens need to defend themselves."

Then you gun slingers are not doing a very good job, are you?
Maybe you need more guns....

Actually a lot of crimes are deterred by gun-owners. Yes, more guns in the hands of law-abiding people probably would lower crime.

" We have a lady in prison here in TX who ran over her husband for cheating on her"

I said serial killers...

" Most "mass murderers" who grab women or children, rape and kill them, probbably don't even use guns anyway. "

Describe a scenario here please......and I'm not talking about military or war situations....

Most mass murderers I've read about didn't use guns to kill their victims. Speck strangled and stabbed his victims. Ted Bundy beat and strangled his victims to death. I think this is typical.
