Well, streams(users) are not channels(media suppliers)? Media businesses will add video servers for channels, just like supermarket selling dedicated shelf space(leasing fees) to larger food suppliers, and department stores selling dedicated floor space to designer labels for extra income. Software can be upgraded, hardware is hard investment(ROI). So, you would expect software business more cut throat. But hard nosed business has to have partners to lock the hardware business up. Playing with fire can burn your fingers. Patents are difficult to cash in?
