That first photo sort of captures the feeling -- whenever I was in Calgary those white-caps stretching all along the horizon always looked to me like they could be made of paper mache. My wife worked in Jasper during her university days and she thought the same thing whenever coming at the Rockies from Edmonton

IMO it isn't until you drive into the mountains that you get an appreciation for them. I live in the east but I have fond memories from my work travelling days of sitting in the lounge at the Rimrock just watching the twilight set in
