What are you guys doing up so early..? I look at the time of your posts as well as how late some of you post at night. Golly was I ever that young. Although I have had some PM's about not listening to these right wing talk shows... last night one of those hosts.. since I tuned in late I did not catch the name... was talking about Barrak,HUSSEIN Obama and his attachment to the church where this terrible racist preacher had delivered a sermon about what it is like to have been a black man in the US. He then played the tape.. You know how it hit me ? I was there in the fifties when I had to go into a restaurant in Newburgh New York to ask if they allowed Blacks to come eat.. I had several black counselors with me from the integrated YWCA of New York City camp where I was a counselor. We were on a day off. I had to integrate a YWCA of the Oranges and Maplewood N,J where I was the only white in a segregated YWCA... One on Main Street the other in the Black section of town. These experiences were my eye openers... How difficult it was for me later in the eighties when a black counselor in our department, who was totally ineffective used the race card every time he was criticized.... Painful. Knowing that I did not have one part of my body that saw black, only a human being it was an insult to be so confronted for honest opinions... I think that the minister had every right to make that speech. Inflammatory as it was it was the TRUTH. When in this country has the truth been so much of the inappropriate thing to say. Maybe one can say the past is over and dead, leave it alone... However I know in my life that these times are changing and one needs to be reminded of what a wonderful magnificent step that is.
