Mary, with regard to Kate's view that Hillary could not win the general election against McCain you wrote; "I hope we are a little smarter than you think."

By "we" I gather you meant the voting public of Democrats, Independents, Republicans and fringe parties.

So I have to ask; were you serious?

Hillary had huge problems to overcome at the onset of this process and if McCain was to become the nominee in order to have a realistic chance of becoming president it was incumbent on her to reduce her negatives.

Her worst nightmare was to run against McCain after having solidified the public suspicion of her as being a dishonest, scheming, and compulsively ambitious politician. She's failed miserably.

Every attack she levels at Obama may help her with the 25-30% of overall voters who are her strong supporters but it is killing her with every other voter. She's single handedly cutting her own throat while slicing deeply into Obama's wrists. In the end, win or lose the Democratic nomination, she may well become the Ralph Nader of 2008.

In view of where McCain wants to lead this country that's a horrible legacy for the Clintons to carry. Although she's a loyal Hillary supporter, I suspect that Kate understands that.

Why don't you? Ed
