I made this post on Sliders thread and it accurately reflects the business cycle we are currently locked into.

Do you have any idea of the scope of R&D funding that occurs through DARPA? I've monitored these contracts for dozens of years, and its flat out enormous. That most of the impending innovation is filtered through defense primes, is neither an accident, nor is it worth debating, it just is the present system.

You can take almost any area, and you'll find development contracts; by way of example, shrimp give off some kind of slime, that slime clots blood and a company in the northwest has been supplying it to field hospitals. the range and scope of applications is enormous.

Many promising developments are corralled within the DARPA prime filters, until such time as demand from civilian applications begins to find these aggregate pieces, and allows the companies to escape. The nightmare of being processed by the darpa prime system remains very real to the entrepreneurs processed as cattle.

The fact that darpa is a gov agency who supports DOD, is not really about the issue of war, its about filtering applications for oligarchic processing on a forward basis.

When you look at the currency of the market, you'll find the fewest number of public companies and a lower market float than say +20 years. From where i sit; and with respect to my original comments, this depicts a complete business cycle and the cycle unfolding is the same as the cycle ending.

its not up to me to suggest that the tether between R&D and the economy be changed, i was simply saying, that this is the cycle......others can rule on its efficacy.
