Ok Mr. Rrufff...

If you want fairness... then you can have fairness.

But... I think you are going to have to form an army and establish The Dictatorship of Rrufff The 1st to get it. <Hoo><Haa>

I just don't know what else to tell you. I don't know how "optimists" have been, do now, or will ever get it ("fairness") done. From where I perch... none of "you" apes can be trusted to give me a place to poop much less some kind of "fair market!" <Hoo><Hoo><ugH>

Seriously though Mr. Rrufff... I think you've hit on the ultimate problem we face when the "crusaders" can't get any one's attention without running a "scam" of their own.

Call it dichotomy... vicious circles... "Moral Hazard"... whatever. Market problems of significant magnitude... only get to be endemic... because they arise from behaviors that very many people find attractive.

Let's say God were to appear and tell you that one of three things would happen Monday:
a) Bear Stern's assets will be confiscated by the federal Treasury, anyone holding their equity or debt can go fish, anyone using their clearing or any back office services can pay a hefty fee to get their account records released, and no one gets any "deposit account" values that aren't federally guaranteed which should be precious few considering Bear Stern's investment bank status; or

b) All persons who held an internal or external management position at Bear Stern from 1/1/2003 through 3/16/2008 will be hanged at high noon on national TV; or

c) The US Treasury will guarantee all Bear Stern's mortgage based securities for a 17% "fee", a handshake, a smile, and best wishes in all their future civil litigation.

Then He tells you that you get to decide whether its (a), (b) or (c). Which would you choose? And would your decision increase or decrease the "Moral Hazard" in the rest of the market?

P.S. This is supposed to be a trick question... but I'll readily confess that its a very dirty trick. <vbg>
