EP in economics, we mustn't forget the value of the unpriced. A mother might not produce anything with $$ signs on it, but a lot of people value their 20 year old offspring quite highly.

Suppose you kidnap said offspring and demand ransom. How much people would pay is a reasonable guide to the per capita economic value. I would definitely pay more than $44,000 for each of my offspring. Heck, it has cost me more than that to get them up to adulthood and I expect a hefty consumer surplus if not actual profit.

My wife has produced 4 adult offspring and two grandchildren as a result. All with no $$ pricing showing up in GDP.

Even the government prices people at $2 million each in NZ for road safety investment calculations.

If there were tradable citizenships, the assets of countries would be treated with a lot more respect. The serfs would vote more sensibly to avoid their "share" price going down.

If Americans understood how much value each immigrant who makes it into the citizenship lists has got for no input, they would be less enthusiastic about handing over their centuries of heritage, which was achieved at vast cost, in return for nothing at all. Not even "Thanks" all too often.
