Steve G. - LIMITING factor

And as with ADSL, the LIMITING factor is not the local loop, but the internet itself. There is virtually no difference between 1 Mbps and 8 Mbps local loop as the public net itself rarely gives that kind of throughput.

With Cable a major LIMITING factor is the local loop, since 80% of it is one way, and not to many would accept using the telco as their uplink, when given a choice of a Cable Modem vs ADSl and using the same line for voice at the same time.

As far as speed of the net, perhaps you should test an ADSL Modem on the net before limiting it speed with your general statement.

I love to go into detail on throughput speeds I achieved at ProTech Bookstore in Irving with the Overture 8 Running at 4MB, vs CAP 1.5MB at the Irving Library two blocks away, but alas, 72 pounds of plutonium atop a Titan IV has me preoccupied for the moment.
