It is possible that because of the Wright affair Obama will suffer for what he pretended to be, rather than for what he really is.


Obama has handled this very badly, first and foremost by not understanding how big a problem black liberation theology & Rev. Wright were going to be for him if they ever penetrated mainstream American consciousness.

The tack he should have taken was to say, "Rev. Wright helped me a great deal when I came to Chicago and I owe him and Trinity United more than I can say. But it is mainly years since I began to think very differently about Christianity than my old friend and mentor."

Then he would have looked like a serious person. Now he just looks like another pol ducking and hiding.

It's still his best bet. He needs to make a speech on his religion. Just like Romney needed to do.
