Peter Lynch, in Worth Sep'97, wrote an excellent advice for those who are SuperStock bottom fishers (no pun intended for this thread):

In the latter part of every year, investors sift through their portfolios for losers, which they sell to offset their gains at tax time. Tax related selling used to take place in Dec., now it starts earlier each year... Undervalued stocks will drop even further.

(Maybe obvious, but wasn't for me until I read it.)
