The existence of cartels is hardly something that doesn't fit in to a free market economic understanding, or something that wouldn't be recognized by libertarians.

It's a fly in the ointment of your pure free market philosophy. At least with regards to the "have nots", and in the oil game we are a have not. It saps our wealth.

You keep repeating that "$10 to harvest" as if it had some relevance. The value of an item isn't equal to how much it costs to produce it but rather how much people are willing to pay for it.

It's relevant from a political perspective. Many of the oil producing countries are considered our "enemies", and the wealth redistribution is making them stronger.

The bottom line is that our "enemies" have us over an economic and political "barrel". They can spank our economy at will... and at the same time strengthen themselves.

And yet you fight collective conservation/efficiency action on our part to defend ourselves from an economic war (while defending a military war that costs more and produces fewer results).
