I note that many Obama supporters are now actively defending the Rev. Wright and his anti-American hate speech, either denying its hate speech at all, justifying it on grounds of "context", or criticizing those who are bothered by it. It doesn't seem to dawn on them that by doing so they are undercutting Obama's defensive story line.

Obama claims he'd never heard the hateful speech:

"The statements that Rev. Wright made that are the cause of this controversy were not statements I personally heard him preach while I sat in the pews of Trinity or heard him utter in private conversation"

And Obama has condemned the hate speech itself:

I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country ... In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue. .... “all of the statements that have been the subject of controversy are ones that I vehemently condemn. ... Rev. Wright's statements have pained and angered me"

In choosing to defend or justify Wright, many of Obama's most faithful supporters are implicitly acknowledging they don't believe Obama's claims either.
