I had a bad experience at the Scotia Bank. I told them I wanted to open a savings account and they said no one was there to help me and that it is normal to book an appointment to open a savings account. I said WHAT? I then told the manager that if they want my money they can come over to may house and make an appointment before they come as I'm quite busy. She looked at me like I was crazy or something. I sensed her problem understanding the concept of serving a brand new customer while they were already there and who had already taken the trouble to drive there. I asked her if she went to a vacuum cleaner store to buy a new vacuum but the clerk said that she can't buy one until she goes home and makes an appointment first would she do that or tell the store manager to F off and go somewhere else? She still couldn't grasp this concept. So I was more direct and said, look I've opened over 25 bank accounts around the world in my life and always walked in (where this was possible) and had no problem opening an account on the spot and the bankers were always happy to serve me. She said this was a new policy in Canada as they wanted to know who you were before they made an appointment with you. I must add that this is a retail location on a busy street. Scotia Bank...You're Richer Than You Think? Or maybe their slogan should read....We're richer than you think and who so you think you are coming in here without an appointment Welcome...that is only with an appointment
