TJ, On a freedom scale from 1 to 100 [100 being free], Hong Kong rates about 4, with Zimbabwe rating below that and NZ somewhere between. Comparing oneself with chimps, leeches and piranhas and coming out top isn't really a great thing.

In those narrow measures of "freedom", yes Hong Kong does well. But aiming for perfect, rather than better than the rest, is the way to be.

Meanwhile, Helen Clark is reading the riot act to China's bosses and might not sign a free trade agreement if China doesn't toe the line. They wouldn't want to get in NZ's bad books. While NZ's population is admittedly only a fraction of China's 4th significant figure, Helen Clark had better be taken seriously; or else.
