Wow, I didn't think anyone was more negative than I am. But you get the gold medal. I just see things getting more and more irrational and unfair. I am against any violence, as history has proved it a losing strategy. You set up colonies and you get Mau Maus and Idi Amins and Ho Chi Minhs. You fight Russians and you get Taliban. You beat Hitler, you build up Stalin. Violence can make things better for a while, but, in the long haul, it just changes the source of the problem, not the problem.
However, though I don't believe in violence, I think we are due for a wrenching change. The problem with free markets is that they create winners and losers, with the losers in the great majority. You can fool the losers for awhile with patriotism and religion, but, sooner or later, they are going to see the outnumbered winners as a source of cash.
Somehow, we need to feed the innovation of free markets while maintaining the discipline of strong currency, fiscal common sense and fairness. A tough row to hoe. |
