OT: A firsthand view of the accuracy of birds and their avoidance of windmill wings:

'Sharp Shinned Hawk'

birds.cornell.edu

Last Friday the pictured bird pursued some sparrows w/o success in our side yard of our city property.

I think the hawk found itself unsuccessful catching songbirds.

Curiously, it then seemed to pursue our Cocker Spaniel into a large, very dense, ewe bush in our front yard, maybe it was still pursuing a sparrow, but who can tell?

Nasdaq decided to make himself part of the action.

There was a 3 second tussle between him & the bird.

Our dog came out of the bush looking at me startled & full of Ewe bush debris. <gg>
I imagined he must be thinking 'Hey Dad, did you get the licence plate # of the thing that ran over me?

The Hawk emerged unscathed and sat himself on a low hanging Spruce branch next to the ewe for about 15 seconds recomposing itself.
(that's when I was able to identify it.)

The entire melee was amazing to watch in action.*

*No animals were killed or injured as I witnessed the event.

The point I want to make is Raptors are far more accurate at navigating obstructions in the air than we can imagine.

IMHO, Very few birds will be lost to energy generating windmills.

How many birds are lost to Ocean oil spills & chemically poisoned rivers, lakes & streams?
