It's a fly in the ointment of your pure free market philosophy.

No it isn't. Esp. since cartels usually get that way with government assistance or participation. OPEC is no different. IT the "Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries", with a group of countries with nationalized oil industries. Its not the free market at work.

Of course it is unless you think we live in an Ayn Rand capitalist utopia. People organize themselves in all sorts of different ways... you have to react to reality not ideological fantasy.

It's relevant from a political perspective.

Its not relevant to the claim that trade is a one way wealth transfer.

It's relevant in a bunch of different ways. But if you choose to ignore the political then you can just focus on the fact that we are getting ripped off, paying 90% GP margin for a commodity.

Trade is not an economic war. Trade barriers and sanctions might be considered an economic war, but allowing and/or having trade isn't.

"It ain't beanbag".
