Something else occurred to me. Your mother is not a church. A church is a place of worship. You may elect to go there or not to go there.

The notion that someone is stuck, as if you're inexorably tied to a particular church, similar to the way you're tied to your mother or grandmother is ridiculous. I've left churches for wasting money on high end carpet instead of spending it to help the poor. I've left churches because the sermons were too long and boring, or because they don't have activities for children learn.

A church is where you pray. A church is where you find meaning and peace and solitude to reflect on life. It's not some place where you look to point blame toward the country, or toward a particular race of people. My goodness, go visit a local hate club or something, not the church for that kind of garbage.

I realize everyone is a bit difference in regard to why they go to church. And I've moved quite a bit over the years, so finding a particular church to attend is not uncommon for me. But, I'll bet I reflect a pretty large majority of America's view of the church.
