CheckFree Corp. and Boston Edison Sign Agreement for
Electronic Billing and Payment Boston Edison Customers
Will be Able to Receive and Pay Bills With the Touch of a Button

ATLANTA, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Today CheckFree Corporation
(Nasdaq: CKFR) and Boston Edison (NYSE: BSE) announced an agreement
whereby Boston Edison customers will be able to visit a central Website
to both receive and pay bills electronically on their personal computers.

The service will be available to the 650,000 Boston Edison
customers in Massachusetts. Boston Edison customers will be able to
use CheckFree's E-Bill(sm) service to receive full-color electronic
bills, complete with graphics, logos and full billing detail on their
personal computers. While paying bills electronically is not new,
receiving them electronically has only recently been made possible through
CheckFree's E-Bill.

Companies currently offering electronic bills to their customers
through contracts with Checkfree E-Bill include 17 of the nation's
larger billers and the nation's largest statement processor. Combined,
these companies represent more than 100 million consumer and business
accounts. Earlier this month, Chase Manhattan Bank announced that it will
become the first bank in the country to offer E-Bill to its customers.

"Paying bills will soon become easier for Boston Edison customers,"
said Ebet Cushman of Boston Edison. "Receiving and paying monthly bills on
a PC will save our customers time, money and trouble, and reflects Boston
Edison's commitment to top quality service through advanced technologies.
We think a lot of our customers will find this service very useful and
convenient."

"Boston Edison continues to push the boundaries of exceptional customer
service," said Peter J. Kight, president and CEO of CheckFree.
"Becoming one of the first companies to offer electronic billing and payment
is yet another example of its leadership. For the Boston Edison customers
that use E-Bill, bill payment will become a complete, non-paper, electronic
round-trip."

A demo of CheckFree E-Bill is available at www.checkfree.com and or
