Another wonderful American story, Michael! I’ve been troubled, and trying to put my finger on exactly what it is that is bothering me. I believe it is this: Most Americans, no matter our color, since the Civil War have really tried to understand, and to rectify, the misdeeds done to the Blacks. Hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people have tried to help, and in fact, have provided blood, sweat, and tears of their own, as well as funds, to help dispel those misdeeds.
Many of us in the so called middle and upper middle income levels can not afford to have our own children go to Ivy League colleges. Nor are they able to go to Harvard or Yale, etc for graduate degrees, at least on the parents dime, as this income tax group takes so much from their income. Most of us have paid the ‘full boat’ price for medical and life insurances so that our children can be as protected as possible. And all the other ETCs of honest, and responsible parents.
It is galling to say the least, to hear someone like Wright say the despicable things he has about Americans and our government. Especially, when so many of us have done what we can to help those less fortunate than ourselves, both here in this country, and those in other countries.
To have Obama in sympathy with those words is equally galling. This country has been pouring taxpayer funds into American communities where the poor live. Unfortunately, the poor, by in large, seem to stay there. Why is that? What has happened to all the Billions of dollars that have been ‘freely given to the people who need it??’ We have had no accounting of any of it since FDR days when the faucet was turned on full blast. How many people are better off because of all those dollars? We are at least 3 and sometimes 4 and 5 generations away from that beginning. When do people start to stand on their own two feet and contribute to our Nation, rather than take from it constantly?
You are correct.....the immigrants to America by in large "get it" right away. The folks I've met are delighted to be here, and to have the opportunity that America provides....FREEDOM to make as much of themselves as they dream they can.
Obama wants to be a “uniter.” He says. Perhaps Obama should start by realizing the sadness, and yes, the anger of the Americans who have sacrificed and taken funds from their own family, so as to help those who seemed to be in more need. A Thank You and an Acknowledgement of those sacrifices occasionally would not be too much to talk about. |
