yes, but the difference in this case is that the air charged tanks don't lose power over time as batteries do.

if air powered cars became popular, technology would quickly improve storage tanks as well as compressors (i believe). tanks would become stronger, lighter and safer. compressors might actually move on board the cars themselves. multi-junction solar technology promises greater than 40% efficiency soon. solar cells could then be put on the cars to power the compressors or charge batteries, whatever the case may be..
