Joel, I'd hardly describe it as a defection. The guy who left (don't know exactly when) was supposed to be this big consulting/security/rain maker type, but really turned out to be more of a self promoter as I hear it. Seems he did a lot of lecturing, etc. that took a lot of time and didn't generate a dime for S1. Don't know the guy, of course, but the release his new employer put out (see link below) certainly goes out of its way to make him appear godlike. Note that they couldn't even get it straight who's the parent and who's the sub at SFNB. Makes him sound very important.
Biggest part of S1's problem, IMHO, has been delivery/execution on otherwise good ideas. Hopefully, they can turn that around before it's too late. We'll see, but I don't think the Bank's that ponied up the bucks a couple months ago did so lightly, or would abandon S1 quickly either. Banks can bury a bad software expenditure in operating expenses, but to actually make an equity investment ... they don't do things like that on a whim.
