re: Steve Dalkowski...

A couple of years ago, they had a 10-15 minute piece
about him on one of the Sunday morning news magazine shows.

It wasn't Charles Kuralt... I'm thinking maybe it was
Bill Geist? Can't remember for sure.

It was a sad story. He was basically destitute.

Many still say he had the greatest "arm" in the
history of the game. Some say Feller was the
hardest thrower in history, and would be a legit
100+ m.p.h. on today's radar guns. But, they talk
about Dalkowski being around 110 m.p.h.

Here's a great site that talks about him.

sportingnews.com

This pretty much says it all...

*In an Eastern League game, Dalkowski struck out 27
and walked 16, while throwing 283 pitches. In another
game, he was pulled in the second inning after throwing
120 pitches.

*At Aberdeen in the Northern League, Dalkowski threw a
one-hitter and lost 9-8.

The hardest thrower in the history of the game?

Steve Dalkowski.

A great trivia question for true aficionados.
