Why there won't be correlation. Past 5 decades tiny number of countries hog capital. If they drop the rest of the world drop. Easily explained:

Like that the people eating at a table and the others getting the breadcrumbs that drop from the table. The more they eat the more breadcrumbs fall to the shirtless under the table.

Note 45% of the world GDP at end of WWII was US.

Times get tough. Less gorging at the table less breadcrumbs to the shirtless.

Now is different. You've got all those guys grabbing whatever they can form the waiters passing around...
Thus no correlation.

Therefore we will see some waists being a bit trim since the shirtless are getting a share of the food passing around.
