You can have a separate drop along with a separate meter.

There have been some big breakthroughs in battery design in the last few years. I'm looking for battery capacity to rise by a factor of 5 in the next few years. If that pans out a small vehicle like the Roadster would have a range of over 1000 miles.

The interesting thing about the Roadsters current batteries is that to get maximum life (cycles) out of the batteries you don't want to charge them fully or discharge them fully. The trick is to only put in as much energy as you need for your trip plus a small amount extra.

But I think if you can achieve a 500 mile range then that would satisfy probably over 95% of drivers on the road.
