Oraple? Apacle?

(+) The two companies combine to form some hefty critical mass. Keep the "Apple is going under rumors" at bay.

(Add a Sun alliance and you have one mean enterprise.)

(+) Little redundancy. Few if any layoffs to accomplish. Enterprise database with Mac ease of use/consumer base.

(+) Jobs and Ellison are already friends.

(-) If this is going to be a friendly deal, there probably wouldn't be much of a takeover premium by Oracle.

(-) Oracle's (Apple's) stock would take a pounding.

I don't see Umax/Motorola as players here. Umax already has a good relationship with Apple that they don't want to jeopardize. I also get the sense that Motorola wouldn't know what to do with Apple if they got it.

My 25› bet is that Apple and Oracle wind up with an NC co-marketing plan.
