My goodness....your post almost brought a lump to my throat....my poor candidate, Hillary, has indeed been savagely treated by the press.

What upsets me most about it is not that Hillary, who I only marginally preferred to Obama, has been rendered unelectible by the press. It's that the press has swept the country twice before into tragedies. First was the election of Bush, whom the press adored for his cocky, wise-cracking ways. Second was the Iraq war.

So I get viscerally alarmed when the press gets infatuated with either a candidate or a cause. It's similar to a stock. When all the analysts throw out their strongest buy opinions and the stock goes hyperbolic, it's time to sell!!

But what's done is done. At the moment, my assumption is that both Dem candidates are now unelectible. I'm OK with it simply because I believe the economy will continue to deteriorate under McCain and at an accelerating pace. The subsequent debt spiral might tip more congressional races into the Dem category and lead to the majorities that are needed to REALLY turn the country around fiscally.

I also am somewhat OK with McCain because I'm no longer sure that responsible fiscal policy is paramount to the left-wing of the party that seems to be exerting its control over the blue dogs like myself. So more budget deterioration is perhaps the only way to make the left get real about their spending notions.
