"Hugely helpful" is a nice way of saying a big thank you but it strikes me as purposefully vague.

I completely agree. But it can also, because of its vagueness, mean more than that she simply attended a meeting or two or three.

She wasn't in the "nitty-gritty" where truly "instrumental" players must be (unless they have their own bully pulpit that impacts separate talks).

And I also agree with that but I think this makes it a dichotomous judgment call--she was either in or out. And if she was in, she was a kind of co-president. My own guess, and it's only that, is that she was involved, more than customary first ladies, may well have helped the process along. But her participation should, in no way, be compared to her husband's or George Mitchell's.

I'm also being purposefully vague. Because I don't know. Just guessing on the basis of the political actor she was and is and her role in Bill's work whether as president or as governor.
