Polypore International, Inc., a technology filtration company, engages in the development, manufacture, and marketing of specialized microporous membranes used in separation and filtration processes. It operates in two segments, Energy Storage and Separations Media. The Energy Storage segment engages in developing, manufacturing, and marketing polypropylene and polyethylene monolayer and multilayer membrane separators for lithium batteries that are used in various applications, such as personal electronic devices, power tools, and HEVs and other electric vehicles. This segment also offers polymer-based membrane separators for lead-acid batteries, which are used in batteries for automobiles and other motor vehicles, as well as in industrial battery applications, such as forklifts, golf carts, submarines, and uninterruptible power supply systems. The Separation Media segment engages in developing, manufacturing, and marketing filtration membranes and modules, which are used in healthcare, industrial, and specialty filtration applications. This segment also provides membranes for hemodialysis, blood oxygenation, and plasmapheresis applications.
