Low interest rates are a prescription for asset inflation. There are some uses for low interest rates in exceptional circumstances of limited time duration. There are dangers when they are used too long, or under non-exceptional conditions. We are witnessing the results of that right now.

Plenty of people walking away from RE deals looked fine on paper. It is a fantasy to think this problem was caused by minorities trying to buy their first home.

The FED caused the problem to start with (although IIRC, I think you are one of those who think Bush's tax cuts were what keep the economy going a few years back rather than low interest rates and RE inflation) and now they are trying to clean it up by embracing socialism in this our noble land. Socialization of loss, privatization of profit. God bless America! t
