70 and over- 3 times as likely to be in crashes
Big reaction time differences. I watched my mother's driving skills deteriorate. I'm planning on buying some property within walking distance of stores and the center of town to retire in, so, like my grandmother, I can walk to the store like she did, rather than driving, like my mother did (my mother who in the 10 years between 70 and 80 sideswiped a parked car - and didn't report it- repeatedly ran in to walls, shopping carts and other drivers, and who was unsafe at any speed at night. I quit driving with the woman after she was 72, and she was insulted, but quite frankly I wanted to live.)

If the elderly only killed themselves, or damaged their own property, I'd have no problem with them driving- but they don't.
