I would say that a little differently. I think the black people that we hear from most often have the attitude that they are owed something. I don't think that is characteristic of most black people, though. They are too busy for that.

My father in law was in a POW camp but he did not escape. Those who did, most of them, were caught and executed. They made a movie about it called "The Great Escape." Most of those who escaped were British.

He rarely talks about his experiences to anyone but me because I prod him about it, and his fellow POWs, with whom he meets almost annually. They understand each other in ways we never can.

Does your father go to POW reunions? What camps was he in?
