Al, the NIMBY factor is a direct result of the negative public perception created by disasters such as Chernobyl. The flames are further fanned by environmentalists who exploit these fears in opposing anything related to nuclear energy. All that contributes to the excessive cost of building and maintaining nuclear power plants. Some of those fears are justified, but most aren't.

You don't need an environmentalist to understand chernobyl...my relatives in southern italy monitored radiation for a couple of years after the fire. Stop being a ideologue and look at the issue objectively. As long as coal has friends in high places, it is and will be cheaper than nuclear.
