I just found it odd that you went beyond that

The reasons I don't find it the same thing and that I reject morality are several. "Morality" with its "right" and "wrong" are most commonly associated with religion. Although I agree that they need not be, they are. This connection is unseverable for many people. Seems to me it's best to differentiate up front by not using words that have special meanings for so many people.

Religious morality for many people is God-dictated and absolute. I find it expeditious to avoid that quagmire by differentiating.

Further, morality also subsumes character matters and behaviors having nothing to do with the treatment of others. In my view, nothing that doesn't involve others is the business of others. So I want that aspect of morality off the table from the get go.

Equating ethics and morality leaves on the table too much baggage and too much opportunity for confusion and complication. As was mentioned up-thread, life's too short.
