So when these powerful people we trust are stupid and they are held accountable, it's fine with me.

Now you're talking about powerful people who do stupid things. What about powerful people who haven't done stupid things? Or regular people who may or may not have done stupid things? What about my scenario. I was neither stupid nor powerful. I was an ordinary second line supervisor who wasn't even there when the matter being investigated occurred.
