I don't particularly want bigger social programs- what I'd like to see are better tailored more efficient social programs. I don't even really want more social programs- I just like the money spent differently- not quite so many social programs for the elderly, and more for children- especially since those children are going to have to support a lot of old folks.

I know a lot of democrats, and none of them are really crazy about out of control spending. Of course we'd rather overspend here at home than pour the money down a gopher hole in Iraq, but I'd assume even some republicans can see the merit in that- though obviously not all of them. However that doesn't mean any of us want overspending or unbalanced budgets. Of course I can only speak for the ones I know- there may be fans of out of control social spending out there.
