To me, it seems our society bedrock is the presumption that people will meet their obligations and responsibilities.

If people - enough people - are not held accountable for their actions, then society crumbles.

Walking away from real estate obligations, expecting and getting NO consequence for doing that --- if that happens --- it would be a very bad sign.
