About This Blog

More than 28 million Americans, and many more people throughout the world, suffer from migraine headaches, one of the most debilitating of pain disorders. Symptoms like excruciating pain, visual disturbance and disorientation are often compounded by long-term emotional, physical and financial costs. The contributors to this blog, all sufferers, reflect on how this affliction has affected their lives, and on their efforts to manage and cope with the pain.

About the Authors

Siri Hustvedt is the author of a book of poems ("Reading to You"), three novels, ("The Blindfold," "The Enchantment of Lily Dahl," and "What I Loved") and two books of essays, ("Mysteries of the Rectangle" and "A Plea for Eros"). Her fourth novel, "The Sorrows of An American," will be published in April 2008. Her work has been translated into 29 languages.

Paula Kamen, a Chicago journalist, is the author of four books, including "All In My Head" about her quest to relieve her chronic headaches.. Her newest book is "Finding Iris Chang: Ambition, Friendship and the Loss of an Extraordinary Mind." Her Web site is paulakamen.com.

Klaus Podoll, is a neurologist and psychiatrist working at the University Clinic Aachen, Germany. In cooperation with the late Derek Robinson, he wrote a book and numerous medical papers on migraine art. He is, along with Markus Dahlem, editor of the Web site migraine-aura.org.

Oliver Sacks is Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at Columbia University, and a Columbia University Artist. He is the author of 10 books, including "Migraine," "The Man who Mistook his Wife for a Hat," "Awakenings," and most recently, "Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain." Jeff Tweedy is the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist of the Chicago-based rock band Wilco, founded in 1994. The group has released several albums, including "Being There," "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" and "A Ghost Is Born," which won two Grammy awards. Their latest release is "Sky Blue Sky."
