Volume grows towards the end of a bull market reaching new heights as shares rapidly change hands between bulls and bears. Volume however is highest during capitulation. It then falls as investor apathy picks up leading to selling without a great deal of buying.

When a bottom does occur the turn often comes on low volume as the numbers of sellers is finally outpaced by the number of buyers even though initially there may not be that many of either.

Of course I could be wrong and we may have a lot more downside ahead. But sentiment is also what we have seen at past bottoms.
