LOT'S of 'terrorists' (i.e., people who employ terror as a political/military tactic) in Columbia.
Hundreds of thousands of 'em, I'd wager.
Almost a 'national industry'.
'Left wing terrorists', putative 'Marxists', (most just low rent kidnappers/murderers/drug traders and such actually....)
'Right wing terrorists', death squad members and such, (most just low rent kidnappers/murderers/drug traders and other sorts out on the make actually. Trying to control the market, keep the profits, etc....)
PLENTY to choose from.
Two quick points about your 'laptop' though (not that I personally actually doubt much of the news reports that have been written about the supposed 'contents' of the files though... except for that 'Venezuelan $300 Million dollars' and the 'rebel requests for URANIUM for a nuclear bomb', none of which I believe, and none of which, from what I've seen, is actually on any of those files in straightforward language. For example, the word 'uranium' and the amount of '$300 MILLION' appear nowhere. :-)
1) Supposedly Columbia offered the file contents (and the captured laptop) up for the inspection and formal forensic investigation by US experts... but, last I heard the US was saying that *no one* from the US had actually seen anything first hand yet..... <g>
2) The WSJ link you post reports that a 'Mr. Jones' wrote to the FARC and claimed that *he* had spoken directly with the Congressman. How direct a 'link' is that? I mean... was the guy lying to enhance his cred.? Was the Congressman aware (if, indeed, there ever was such a meeting) who he was talking with, or that there were FARC links? Etc.
As I understand it, most of the Dem. opposition to the Bush/Columbian trade deal is over Trade Union politics. (Supposedly Columbia is one of the most dangerous nations on Earth for Union organizers... they tend to go 'missing' and turn up in ditches with handcuffs on and single shot head wounds and like stuff.....) Not really 'FARC-related' very much insofar as the FARC is not very much into Trade Unionism itself. ;-) |
