Haven't posted much in the last few months. With all this about ATOMM, I am curious about your comments suggesting that IOM licensed zip technology from Sony and or Fuji. Does this mean that they got the media from Fuji and the drive from Sony, (or just one of the above) and that IOM is just a marketing co? This may make sense, how they have come up with so many new products in such short order, Zip, Jaz, Ditto, Buz, Recordit, etc. That sort of explains why a lot of Iomega type drives are manufactured and sold by Sony with the same case in different color or with different cases but the same insides. It would also explain why in the mass market computer resellers (CompUSA, Best Buy, Computer City, Office Depot, etc.) only Sony PCs commonly come with Zip drives installed whereas most other OEMs that use Zips don't generally include them in the display models. Thus Sony seems to have a strong vested interest in pushing Zips. They may have sold this tech to Iomega to test the market, and now that they see it a success, they want to move in and take it over with the 200 mb upgrade. It seems that Fuji 10 packs of Zips disks for $99 are also a big seller and suggests similar co-interest. Who knows. What I am asking is this a definite that IOM got the Zip tech from Sony and or Fuji? I think it is important to pin down if this 200 mb ATOMM media implys a new drive or just a greater media density that can be read by a modified Zip drive. I thought the Zips were based on the old bernouli tech which they should own (remember the IOMEGA Bernouli drive heads which float above the media and thus seldom crash or damage data). This is real interesting.
