The violence going on is mostly in Basra though. And is Shia militia vs Shia-majority govt. Beyond that, there are grievances that have developed over hundreds of years under colonial rule and then under an iron fisted dictator that have never been resolved. "Greivances"? What greivances does a Shiite militiaman have with a Shia-dominated govt? It is egged on by Iran (and wouldbe new strongmen like Sadr) who wishes to sow chaos there and bring about an Iraq similar to itself. I suspect the Iraqi army under Iraq's elected govt will be able to handle the militias. And taking them on will be necessary. If so, then we can pull out. They will still need supplies and air support. Any withdrawal s/b gradual, partial, and tied to security needs - not the precipitous retreat and surrender the left wants.
